The people of North-east England stood firm against the twin threats of fascism at home and the Nazis and other Fascists abroad when they reared their heads in the 1930's and 1940's. Although a small number of North-east people did flirt with fascism for a while there was far more opposition to it from ordinary workingpeople in the region. North-east soldiers and members of other armed forces also played an honourable role in the defeat of Nazi Germany. To hear some of the great stories from this period, come to St James' Church, Benwell Lane, Benwell, Newcastle for a special presentation at 4.15 p.m. on 29th April. The event will include a talk, a short story and the performance of a specially written song.
